Pragmatism Series#12: Enjoy Uncomfortable feeling, be Bold, and Grow. A timely reminder from 2020

Invaluable experiences are acquired when you face an Unexpected, New, Unique situation for the first time, and you respond to it with an open and flexible mind to successfully overcome the same.

2020 was a perfect example of acquiring invaluable experiences. We all faced an Unexpected, New and Unique situation. An uncertain deviation from all normal that required

  • us to follow specific appropriate behaviors
  • building resiliency in whatever we were doing
  • growing and getting out of a threatening situation

It’s Normal to feel ‘Uncomfortable’ in Uncertain or Unique Situation:

A situation let us all feel uncomfortable due to the requirement to follow a specific ‘appropriate’ behavior that we all ought to follow. A behavior of isolation or distancing or masking oneself to break the infection spread.

For those who followed this meticulously, it was indeed an act of magnanimity through individual contribution for a larger purpose.

“When you feel uncomfortable due to an uncertain situation, ‘the Normal’ lifestyle keeps changing, and it’s ok.”

A ‘Bold’ move of Strengthening all actions through Resiliency:

A situation that let us all think and plan for building resilience in every aspect. The very thought of this was in the right direction.

  • Thinking in terms of practicing a healthy lifestyle (living healthy) to avoid health set back
  • Thinking in terms of building a friendly social environment to prevent any outbreak
  • Thinking in terms of making backup plans for all business tractions to avoid any economic disruptions

“When you sport a “Resilient” mindset during an uncertain situation, “New” ways of operating are identified, and a new effective direction set.”

Embrace New ways for Guaranteed ‘Growth’:

A situation that let us all follow new practices and newer ways for survival and sustainment — means taking risks, doing things that you are afraid of, finding out innovative ways of performing a transaction, and most importantly, the stress was on the “Moving on” attitude. Perhaps these were the most critical decisions that enabled some clarity, key lessons, and rich experience.

“When you embrace new ways due to an uncertain situation, “the normal’ ways of operating keep changing and will become better.”

The above are reflections of experiences and valuable lessons learned last year. It is very relevant and befitting to refresh our mindset and follow the thoughts to tide over the current crisis as a reminder.

As a starting point and always ask a crucial question, whether a decision and action will create a safer and happier environment for oneself and others?

“You certainly have a choice of choosing the emotional domain you want to be in and exercise it.”

What is your Choice?
